Thought for the Moment

While I'm still embroidering shirts for my sister and her husband, I've also been looking at blogs, message boards, and pattern reviews (The embroidering is mindless — I'm taking too many breaks!) and I'm seeing so many pretty and interesting things. It occurs to me again how GLAD I am to be a woman, and have so many choices. While not every style, color, print is going to look good on me, I can't imagine being tied down to a boring old gray, navy, or brown suit with a shirt and tie every single day. It's so much more fun to have FASHION, where styles and colors come and go, and I can pick and choose and experiment, whether in sewing or with buying.

And let's not even get started on SHOES … another pair of which is supposed to be arriving on Monday. Oops. How did THAT happen? ;-)

  2. so true! I offered to make my hubby some stuff, but although grateful, he pointed out that I couldn't really do anything different to the stuff that he could buy in the shops.

  3. two comments: first of all, I noticed in a meeting at work the other day that one of the guys was wearing a business shirt that was made in a tiny purple check (which is nice to start with) but that the fabric INSIDE the cuffs (he wears cufflinks, so I mean the fabric is mostly hidden and not against the skin of his wrists) was a matching purple and white floral! Now I am pretty certain this guy isn't gay, but it's nice to see that someone (him? his wife?) has bought a shirt that's just a little out of the ordinary.
Second comment is really to Tina: my hubby's brother came back from Indonesia last year with a sarong for my husband. While DH doesn't work in an office, he's still never going to wear a sarong. I made it into a very nice shirt for him to wear and it's now one of his favourite summer weight shirts to wear!

  4. Debbie, men get bored with navy, gray and blue as well. Check out Jeffrey's blog at "Tutto Fatto a Mano" to see what he's been up to to relieve the tedium.

  5. So true! I give thanks every day for a woman ... to play with colors, flowers, plaids, dresses, skirts, pants and not be forced to wear boring clothes ... I can not understand what "feel" like a man with respect to clothing. I guess being a woman is much more fun!

  6. Good thought post, also taking a break from sewing a jacket. Hopped over here and your thoughts remind me of why I enjoy being a woman.. multitude of colors and prints that are readily available for wearing.

  7. Amen to your thinking about the options open to us as women .....but I do have to say that if most men are anything like my hubby and son, they are glad to NOT have to think about what to wear. The less choices the better for them!

  8. Hooray for SHOES!! They always look fabulous, and are more likely to fit than most ready to wear clothes. I really enjoy your blog.

  9. Don't rub it in! Menswear for the main part is so darn dull. Buying local and cool is hard. And don't get me started on shoes!

  10. Some days it's fun to dress up, but many days I wish for fewer choices and a lower standard for women's career clothes. I hate being evaluated for how sharp I look when I'm forced to buy clothes on lower budget than my peers. I have to admit I mostly buy jackets that go with black, and I wear black pants and a black turtleneck 3 or 4 days a week in the winter.

  11. I enjoy having choice, but wish women's clothing and shoes came in the same hard-wearing and practical styles that men's do. If you've ever looked for a sturdy, well fitting, comfortable and flat pair of shoes you'll know what I mean.

Thank you for each and every comment. I appreciate them all, but I have to be honest and let you know that I'm usually bad about answering questions. I hope you understand that there just isn't enough time in the day to do everything I want to do.
